Enhanced Onchain Billing for Coinbase Staking API

TL;DR: Coinbase Staking API now supports Enhanced Onchain Billing for Dedicated ETH staking, allowing integrators to automatically split rewards between users, platforms, and Coinbase through smart contracts. This eliminates manual invoicing and makes staking more efficient and scalable for wallets, restaking protocols, and other integrators.

Coinbase Staking API is one of the most trusted, easiest-to-use providers of programmatic, non-custodial staking services for Ethereum and Solana. 

In December 2024, we introduced Onchain Billing, enabling customers to automate rewards through predefined Reward Distribution Plans. This removed manual, offchain invoicing and greatly improved operational efficiency, particularly for large custodians and institutional staking providers. 

While this met the needs of some Staking API customers like large crypto custodians, it wasn’t a solution for customers like wallet providers and restaking protocols that need to dynamically deploy reward distribution contracts with end-user addresses.

Today, we’re excited to announce Enhanced Onchain Billing, a new Staking API feature which builds upon our December launch by streamlining staking reward distribution for ETH staking integrators, platforms, and end-users. This launch ensures a smoother, more efficient staking experience through automated reward distribution.

Enhanced Onchain Billing makes it easy for Staking API integrators to manage how rewards are split between end-users, the integrator, and Coinbase. Integrators can define a Reward Distribution Plan that specifies the percentage breakdown — which then generates a unique Plan ID. When staking, the integrator simply includes this Plan ID, and a smart contract is deployed onchain to automatically handle reward distribution. By automating reward distribution, integrators eliminate manual invoicing and reduce operational overhead, making Dedicated ETH staking more efficient and scalable.
