About Optimism
Optimism is a network of chains called the Superchain, built on the open-source OP Stack. OP Mainnet was the first chain, with several others now operating on the OP Stack architecture, including Base (by Coinbase), Unichain (by Uniswap), Ink (by Kraken), and World Chain (by Worldcoin). The OP Stack serves as a framework for Ethereum Layer 2 chains and supports significant L2 activity. Every OP Chain in the Superchain contributes back to the Optimism Collective and all chains follow a standardized revenue-sharing model: the greater of 2.5% of total chain revenue or 15% of onchain profit (defined as fees minus L1 gas costs) is paid back to the Optimism. This makes Optimism a potential platform for various decentralized applications and protocols.
Optimism is led by the Optimism Foundation, which is dedicated to growing the Optimism ecosystem. The foundation is completely funded by donations and grants and pledges to produce infrastructure that promotes the growth and sustainability of public goods. The foundation has set several milestones for the development of Optimism, including the introduction of Optimistic Rollup, the launch of the EVM Compatible Testnet, and the opening of the Mainnet. The foundation is working on decentralizing the sequencer and implementing next-generation fault proofing. The initial token supply of Optimism was 4,294,967,296 OP tokens, with a token generation rate of 2% per year.
