Investment risk
Baseline risk: All crypto-assets are risky, regardless of the type of token you hold. Here are some 'baseline' risks to be aware of before deciding to invest.
Investment risk: The performance of most crypto-assets can be highly volatile, with their value dropping as quickly as it can rise. You should be prepared to lose all the money you invest in crypto-assets.
Lack of protections: Crypto-assets are largely unregulated and neither the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) nor the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) will protect you in the event something goes wrong with your crypto-asset investments.
Crypto-assets are complex: It may be difficult to understand the risks associated with a crypto-asset investment. Do your own research and if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Don't put all your eggs in one basket: Putting all your money into a single type of investment is risky. Spreading your money across different investments makes you less dependent on any one to do well. A good rule of thumb is not to invest more than 10% of your money in high-risk investments such as crypto-assets.
Defi tokens: Decentralised Finance (or 'DeFi') tokens (e.g. UNI, AAVE) are crypto-assets linked to financial applications and protocols built on decentralised blockchain technology.
Smart contract risk: DeFi relies heavily on smart contracts. Even a minor coding error or oversight can lead to a contract being exploited, potentially resulting in significant losses for DeFi tokens.
Regulatory risk: DeFi operates in a decentralized manner, often without intermediaries or financial crime controls. Regulatory bodies across jurisdictions might introduce new regulations impacting the use, value, or legality of certain DeFi protocols or assets. For example, the Perpetual Protocol (PERP) and Quickstop (QUICK) protocols may be accessible in jurisdictions where some or all the available activity may need to be regulated now or in the future. If a regulator deemed the activity to be in breach of regulation, this could seriously impact token value.
Rug-pulls / Exit scams: Some DeFi projects might be launched by anonymous or pseudonymous teams, increasing the risk of "rug pulls" where developers abandon the project and withdraw funds, leaving investors with worthless tokens.
Data/oracle risk: DeFi protocols often rely on external data sources or 'oracles'. Manipulation or inaccuracies in these data sources can lead to unintended financial outcomes within the protocols.
Protocol complexity: The complexity of some DeFi protocols can make it difficult for average users to fully understand the mechanisms and associated risks.

FAQ
Hashflow (HFT) is a decentralized exchange (DEX) that aims to provide users with the ability to trade digital assets on various blockchains including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, BNB Chain, Optimism, and Polygon. Unlike Automated Market Makers (AMMs), Hashflow employs a request-for-quote (RFQ) model, which strives to provide traders with price quotes directly from professional market makers (PMM). This model seeks to eliminate common inefficiencies in decentralized finance (DeFi) such as slippage and Miner Extractable Value (MEV). Hashflow's native token, HFT, is used within the Hashflow protocol and the Hashverse, a gamified trading platform and Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) experience.
Hashflow operates using a hybrid on-chain/off-chain RFQ engine to fetch off-chain quotes from market makers who manage liquidity in on-chain pools. This system aims to protect Hashflow trades from slippage and MEV exploits, whether the trade occurs on one chain or across multiple chains. By moving pricing off-chain, market makers can employ more sophisticated pricing strategies that factor in off-chain data like historical asset prices, volatility, and other real-world information. This allows them to effectively price assets. For traders, off-chain pricing can lead to tighter quotes, zero slippage, and MEV-resistance.
Hashflow's unique approach to decentralized trading opens up a range of potential use cases. Its RFQ model allows market makers to price any asset class, not just stable coins or blue-chip assets. This means Hashflow can facilitate seamless trading of products such as options and ETFs that were previously challenging to trade in DeFi. Additionally, Hashflow offers fully-native cross-chain swap functionality without the use of bridges or synthetic assets, enabling trading across one or more chains with guaranteed price execution. HFT holders can also participate in the Hashverse to increase their HFT compensation from completing single-player quests.
Hashflow was launched in April 2021 by a team of experts from various fields including aerospace engineering, computer science, and strategic consulting. The founders, Varun Kumar, Victor Ionescu, and Vinod Raghavan, brought their experience from organizations like NASA, Airbnb, Google, and Goldman Sachs to the project. Since its launch, Hashflow has processed a significant number of transactions, making it a known player in the DEX space. In 2023, Hashflow introduced the Hashverse, a first-of-its-kind gamified DAO, in collaboration with Superconductor, a company founded by the creative minds behind top Hollywood franchises.
