Starcoin (STC) is a blockchain project developed for distributed finance, inspired by the release of Libra by Facebook in 2019 and using its smart contract language 'Move' which is designed especially for distributed financial networks. As per its whitepaper, Starcoin seeks to deliver an assured digital asset and a decentralized financial operation platform to apply the blockchain in additional fields with a low threshold. The platform also claims to offer a hierarchical blockchain standard to develop a goal that guarantees digital assets' security and reaches scalability and high performance. Security is the basis of the blockchain. The Starcoin platform has taken safety and security as the immediate objective from the origin of its design. Starcoin has conducted in-depth investigation and progress from multiple levels: the base, application layers, consensus, protocol, and extension.
The impossible blockchain trinity has long been a living problem of the blockchain-based ecosystem. As per its whitepaper, the impossible blockchain trinity directs to the attribute that a blockchain system cannot be fully decentralized, enormously scalable, and effortlessly safe at the same time. Generally, only two of them can be accomplished simultaneously. With the hierarchical technology of blockchain, Starcoin tries to meet commercial use requirements by attaining full-scale security and decentralization on its layer one and acquiring robust scalability on layer two to meet commercial use requirements. Starcoin tries to smash the curse of the impossible trinity by using the two firmly coupled blockchain layers.
STC token is native to the Starcoin platform. The platform's state billing design adopts a post-calculation process. Before every transaction, the method checks the user's STCBytes balance; if the balance is shorter than the threshold, the implementation of the transaction is rejected. STCBytes is the storage space for the token. The STCBytes uses the storage state corresponding to completing the most current transaction. Starcoin's whitepaper was released in 2018.
