Terracoin (TRC) is one of the very first cryptocurrencies to come into existence. Unlike traditional currencies, TRC is decentralized, which means there is no central authority. The Terracoin Foundation is committed to helping the world through donations. The decentralized governance allows master node owners to control the future of TRC.
Terracoin is a community with a common aim of helping everyone around the world. Terracoin can be mined using the SHA256 algorithm. SHA256 is part of the SHA 2 family of algorithms, where SHA stands for Secure Hash Algorithm. Although SHA256 is relatively expensive and extremely energy inefficient, the Terracoin Foundation decided to keep this mining method and increase merge mining to retain their loyal traditional miners. Merged mining allows people with ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Miners) miners to mine various coins at once, including bitcoin. This makes the environmental impact almost zero, as the energy and effort are already being used. An ASIC miner is a computerized device or hardware that uses an ASIC for the sole purpose of "mining" the digital currency.
The core principle of the Terracoin Foundation is to improve the world while improving its blockchain technology. Any node owner can make suggestions to the decentralized governance to help their local charities or residents. When TRC is held at $1 for a month, Terracoin Foundation master nodes use half of their net profit to donate to community-selected global non-profits. The other half of the net profit gets converted into more master nodes owned by the Terracoin Foundation to increase the amount that can be donated each month.
Anyone can donate TRC to the donation address, and this TRC becomes more Terracoin Foundation master nodes. The goal of the non-profit side of the Terracoin Foundation is to cut out the middlemen in philanthropy and create a fast-response team that can respond to crises around the world and help in a real and impactful way. Since the platform uses a public ledger and blockchain technology, all Terracoin Foundation disbursements are transparent.
Terracoin was created on October 26, 2012, by an anonymous developer, making Terracoin one of the old coins around. The Terracoin Foundation took over the development and support of the platform on February 13, 2016.
