Coinbase Accessibility Statement

We are committed to making our products and services accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We are committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities, in compliance with the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) (EAA). We are dedicated to continuously improving the accessibility of our services to provide a seamless and inclusive experience for all our users, including persons with disabilities. We have included some information regarding specific requirements of the EAA at the end of this document.

Scope of this Statement

This accessibility statement applies to:

  • Our public-facing website coinbase.com.

  • Our “Coinbase” mobile application.

  • Our customer-facing interfaces for accessing crypto-asset services, e-money accounts and related payment services, which are available through our website and mobile applications.

This statement is also for the purpose of providing information to users about the functioning of our services.

Our Services

In order to use our services, you must be at least 18 years old and reside in a country in which the relevant services are available. In order to use our services, you will need to register for a Coinbase account which will require you to provide certain details, including your name, email address and a password, and to complete certain verification procedures.

We provide the following services: 

  • E-Money & payment services - a digital wallet enabling you to store electronic money issued by Coinbase Ireland Limited, which is denominated in fiat currency (“E-Money") and certain payment services enabling you to send and receive E-Money; and

  • Crypto-asset services -  one or more hosted wallets enabling you to store, track, transfer, and manage supported crypto-assets; and a crypto-assets exchange service enabling you to obtain information for your purchases and sales of crypto-assets, and (subject to certain restrictions) carry out any such purchases or sales on the site.

  • Derivatives trading - trading of derivatives through a licensed EEA broker.

Accessibility of Websites and App

Our websites and app are guided by Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA. Some of the accessibility features on our apps and websites are:

  • Keyboard focus for all user interface components has a clear focus indicator.

  • Users who zoom or increase text are able to see all content reflow to fit their needs.

  • Keyboard users are not forced into any keyboard traps.

  • Page titles and language is conveyed clearly to all users.

  • Contrast standards are supported.

Plain Language 

We use clear and concise language following plain English principles to describe processes such as account creation, how to complete transactions, and account details. Complex terminology is avoided or clearly explained. We also ensure that key information is brought to the attention of users. 

Support Services 

Where we provide support services (such as technical support), we provide information, in accessible modes of communication, on the accessibility of our services and those services’ accessibility with assistive technologies.

Monitoring and continuous improvement 

We will monitor the accessibility of our services and seek to continually improve the accessibility of our services, as both technology and our services change over time.

General EAA requirements

a) ensuring the accessibility of the products used in the provision of the service,

b) providing information, in the following manner, about the functioning of the service, and where products are used in the provision of the service, its link to these products as well as information about their accessibility characteristics and interoperability with assistive devices and facilities:

                              I.        making the information available via more than one sensory channel;

                            II.        presenting the information in an understandable way;

                           III.        presenting the information to users in ways they can perceive;

                          IV.        making the information content available in text formats that can be used to generate alternative assistive formats to be presented in different ways by the users and via more than one sensory channel;

                            V.        presenting in fonts of adequate size and suitable shape, taking into account foreseeable conditions of use and using sufficient contrast, as well as adjustable spacing between letters, lines and paragraphs;

                          VI.        supplementing any non-textual content with an alternative presentation of that content;

                         VII.        providing electronic information needed in the provision of the service in a consistent and adequate way by making it perceivable, operable, understandable and robust;

c) making websites, including the related online applications, and mobile device-based services, including mobile applications, accessible in a consistent and adequate way by making them perceivable, operable, understandable and robust, and

d) where available, support services (help desks, call centres, technical support, relay services and training services) providing information on the accessibility of the service and its compatibility with assistive technologies, in accessible modes of communication.

Specific requirements for consumer banking services

(i)            providing identification methods, electronic signatures, security, and payment services which are perceivable, operable, understandable and robust, and

(ii)           ensuring that the information is understandable, without exceeding a level of complexity superior to level B2 (upper intermediate) of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

 Specific requirements for e-commerce services

(i)            providing the information concerning accessibility of the products and services being sold when this information is provided by the responsible economic operator,

(ii)           ensuring the accessibility of the functionality for identification, security and payment when delivered as part of a service instead of a product by making it perceivable, operable, understandable and robust, and

(iii)          providing identification methods, electronic signatures, and payment services which are perceivable, operable, understandable and robust.
