SKALE (SKL) is the native token of SKALE, a network of interoperable, EVM compatible Layer-1 blockchains built to deliver high performance, zero gas fees, and unmatched scalability for decentralized applications (dApps). The SKALE Network operates through an innovative leaderless consensus mechanism, enabling an unlimited number of independent, EVM-compatible blockchains (SKALE Chains) to run seamlessly. The SKL token empowers its holders to stake as validators, participate as delegators, vote in governance, and access network resources to deploy scalable, decentralized applications tailored to their needs.

SKALE is a blockchain network designed to power decentralized applications (dApps) with zero gas fees, high performance, and limitless scalability. SKALE operates as a network of EVM compatible, interconnected Layer 1 blockchains, referred to as SKALE Chains. These individual chains can be specific to a single dApp or shared amongst similar dApps. SKALE chains are modular and offer pooled security, dynamic scalability, and tailored resource allocation, enabling developers to deploy dApps with unmatched flexibility and user experience.
SKALE operates as a multichain network composed of many chains that pool security. Developers can deploy their own interoperable Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) Layer 1 blockchain on SKALE without sacrificing security or decentralization. While these chains do not share performance, they do share security across validator sets. Each validator node can run concurrently on eight chains, and nodes are randomly assigned and rotated to optimize collusion resistance. SKALE uses a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus model to secure the network. The network’s chain payment mechanism enables developers to pay for resources upfront through a subscription-based model, allowing them to avoid unpredictable gas fees. For users, this translates into a seamless, gas-free experience with instant transaction finality and the ability to interact with dApps at scale without cost or performance bottlenecks.
SKALE is purpose-built to support high-performance decentralized applications that demand seamless, invisible blockchain experiences. Its unique architecture, offering zero gas fees, instant finality, and high throughput, makes it ideal for applications in gaming, AI, and other computationally intensive sectors. Blockchain-based games can leverage SKALE’s infrastructure to deliver real-time, immersive experiences without latency or transaction costs, creating environments where players can interact seamlessly. Similarly, AI and machine learning applications can operate directly on-chain, utilizing SKALE’s scalability to handle complex computations and data processing efficiently. Beyond gaming and AI, SKALE is tailored for dApps requiring fast, frictionless interactions, empowering developers to build user-centric solutions that rival traditional centralized platforms while maintaining the decentralization and security of blockchain technology.
Stan Kladko and Jack O’Holleran co-founded SKALE in 2018, after working on decentralized applications and facing scalability challenges that hindered user experience. Stan conceptualized the SKALE architecture to address these issues, and together they saw an opportunity to create a high-throughput layer to complement Ethereum, enabling dApps to overcome scaling bottlenecks. Backed by investors like Signia Ventures, Floodgate, Winkelvoss Ventures, and Multicoin Capital, SKALE embarked on its mission to transform blockchain scalability.
After two and a half years of development, SKALE launched its mainnet in three phases starting in June 2020. The phased rollout included the first public use of ConsenSys Codefi’s Activate platform, requiring participants in the SKL token sale to stake their tokens before transferring them. By the final mainnet phase in December 2020, SKALE supported staking and delegation with over 46 validator organizations.
