Steem is a blockchain-based platform that aims to compensate users for their contributions to the network. Steem was launched in 2016 by Ned Scott and blockchain developer Dan Larimer. The first app built on the Steem blockchain was Steemit, a platform where users can post curated content online and receive cryptocurrency compensation. After the company was bought by Justin Sun, founder of Tron platform, there was a restructuring of Steem’s operations. Therefore, new blocks are no longer created through mining and the network does not use proof-of-work. The Steem blockchain uses delegated proof-of-stake to aim to improve transaction speed on the platform and make it more scalable.
